Godzilla vs. Megalon

Specs

The rarest of Godzilla novelties, this four-page mini-comic was given away free by Cinema Shares to promote their release of Godzilla vs. Megalon. More effort went into promoting Megalon than most of the other stateside releases, which is ironic considering its status as worst of the Godzilla series.

Regardless, the comic serves as a simplified version of the film's events. The Seatopians are completely absent from the comic's plot and Megalon's origins are hand-waved as a mutant from underground. Godzilla and Jet Jaguar's rolls are reversed in the comic. Godzilla attempts to take on Megalon and Gigan (referred to as "Borodan" in the book) alone before being rescued by Jet Jaguar ("Robot Man" in the comic), unlike in the film in which Jet Jaguar is easily beaten by the two. Also notable is that Gigan once again uses his eye laser from other promotional materials while that ability is once again absent from the movie itself.

The artwork is equally bizarre. Megalon and Gigan are well-detailed, but little attention seems to have been paid to Godzilla himself. Usually he's only a cut above slightly fleshed-out silhouette.
